AI made generic messaging free. Your method just got more valuable.
Anyone can now produce a decent LinkedIn post in seconds. Clear. Confident. Well structured. Completely forgettable.
This isn't a prediction. It's your feed. Scroll it for a minute. Count how many posts you could swap between authors without anyone noticing. The number is most of them.
That's the new floor. Competent, generic messaging now costs nothing. And anything that costs nothing to make is worth nothing to read.
What AI is good at
Be precise about this, because the panic and the hype both get it wrong.
AI is very good at the average. It has read everything, so it knows what a positioning statement usually sounds like. It knows the standard shape of a thought leadership post. It knows which words experts in your field tend to use.
Ask it to explain your category and it will do a fine job. Ask it to sound like a consultant and it will sound exactly like one. That's the problem. It sounds like the mean of every consultant it has read.
The more your messaging resembles the average of your field, the easier it is to replace. Not by a competitor. By a prompt.
What AI can't do
AI can't know what you know and haven't written down.
It doesn't know the question you ask in the first ten minutes of every engagement. It doesn't know the mistake you've watched forty clients make in the same order. It doesn't know why you never start where everyone else starts, or what you check before you agree to take on a project.
That knowledge lives in your head. It came from years of doing the work. It isn't in any training data, because you've never published it.
This is your method. Most experts have one. Very few have named it, structured it or claimed it.
The value moved
For a long time, the scarce thing in marketing was output. Producing good content took time and skill, so the people who could produce more of it won attention.
That scarcity is gone. Output is abundant now. What's scarce is a point of view that couldn't have come from anyone else.
So the value moved. It left production and went to the source. The founder with a named, distinct method now holds something AI can't reproduce. The founder with good copy and no method holds something AI reproduces for free.
This is why proprietary methodology is worth more now, not less. It's the one part of your brand that can't be generated.
Three signs you're on the wrong side
Run these against your own material.
Your homepage could belong to a competitor. Swap in their name. If nothing else needs to change, you're describing the category, not yourself.
You can't name your method. You have a process. You walk clients through it every time. But it has no name, no stages and no language that belongs only to you.
Your best ideas only come out in conversation. Prospects hear the real thinking on a sales call. Nobody hears it anywhere else.
If any of these land, your most valuable asset is sitting in the one place nobody can buy it: your head.
Start at Meaning
The Translation Gap Method has four stages: Meaning, Structure, Translation and Expression. This problem lives in the first one.
Meaning is about naming what you actually do and why it works. Not what your category does. What you do. The judgment calls. The sequence. The beliefs that make you disagree with the standard advice.
You can't defend a method you haven't named. And you can't name one you haven't found.
So start by finding it. Look at the work you've already done. What do you repeat with every client? What do you correct most often? What do you believe that most people in your field don't?
Those answers are raw material. Raw is fine. Raw is where every owned asset starts.
Find what you already own
The free IP Inventory walks you through seven types of asset and rates each one against four checks. You see what's Raw, what's Forming and what you Own. It takes about twenty minutes.
When you've found the method worth building, the Signature Methodology Builder turns it into something named, staged and yours.
AI made average free. Stop competing on average.
